About Therapy

It can seem impossible to survive in the world today…

Let alone thrive!

You are surrounded by images and voices demanding your attention at almost every step: Make more money! Spend more time with family! Binge-watch this new show! Scroll this feed until your thumb hurts!

Even if you were sure of the best way to live, how can you follow it when everything around you pulls you in a different direction?

And how can you really get to know yourself – the REAL you – when there is so much noise and distraction?

Discovering the REAL you…

This will be the primary focus of your experience in therapy.

Deep inside, we all carry around our ideas about who we think we are, who others think we are, and who we want to be.

“People think I’m so patient and loving, but inside I feel angry all the time…”

“I want to be a person who loves everyone, but I can’t ignore the way I feel critical toward almost everyone I meet.”

“I present an image of an upstanding Christian. If only others saw what I do when no one is around.”

For just about everyone, there’s this separation between the image we present to others, which we want to be, and the image of ourselves that we actually see. As that distance grows, we feel less like a whole person. We feel more disjointed and confused, which becomes a real burden.

Compliments from others somehow sting more than they soothe. Our shame says, “I’m not really that guy.”

Yesterday, I had this compassion and joy, but today I just feel bitterness and resentment. Which one is the real me?

Let’s bring all the parts of your life into a coherent whole.

When my clients start to share their stories with me, they’re often surprised to find the way I accept them as they are. It can be healing to unload some of the darkest thoughts going through your mind – and realize the person in front of you can see all of that and still be OK with you.

Upon seeing this, my clients feel empowered to embrace it themselves. “If someone else can accept me like this, then maybe I can do it, too.” Clients usually don’t expect that as soon as they start to move toward this self-acceptance, they simultaneously discover they can change in ways they didn’t know possible.

As I sit across from you and hear your story, I am always listening for the deeper messages, the heart’s hidden needs, and desires. I seek to help you understand what you really need so that you can pursue your real needs – kind of like eating the healthy food your body really needs instead of loading up on candy. My clients have often told me that I could help them realize what they were really looking for.

When you go through the work of therapy…

You can establish a greater sense of purpose in life and live more aligned with that purpose.

We do this by slowing down our typical rapid pace of daily life, starting with the one hour you are in the room with me. It’s hard to make sense of everything when life is like a hurricane. But when we can calm this storm and focus on what’s going on inside, things begin to make sense, and the pieces come together.

About Me

I know what it’s like to struggle and need help…

That’s why I’ve done therapy myself.

And therapy helped me gain victory over my struggles.

I’ve sat in that chair and poured out my problems as I sought to understand myself and why I do the things I do.

I’ve wrestled with anxiety and addictive behavior. As a husband, father, and business owner, I’ve dealt with many challenges that come along with all these things. I’ve benefitted greatly from the support of my friends and therapists.

Some of my educational and professional background…

I received my master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Divine Mercy University in 2019 and my license to practice in Arizona in 2020. I am also a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT), and have completed Internal Family Systems (IFS) level 1 training.

I’ll bring all that knowledge to the table, but none of it is as important as what you’ll bring to the experience. When you sit down with me, you can be assured that I will honor and respect you and where you are. My goal is to uncover the things inside you that will help you flourish in life.

I have worked with adolescents and adults in inpatient and outpatient settings, dealing with trauma, anxiety, depression, and compulsive behavior. I have a special focus on working with Catholic/Christian men dealing with unwanted or addictive sexual behavior.

As a practicing Catholic, I bring a unique perspective into treatment, integrating my own experiences as a Catholic with what I have learned through my practice as a therapist.

When I’m not doing therapy…

You can usually find me spending time with my wife and daughters, working on my latest woodworking project in my shop, strumming my guitar, or racing/training for a triathlon.

Get the ball rolling.

You don’t have to get things figured out in a single session or even in a month or a year.

Therapy with me is just a matter of starting a conversation about real change and taking steps to move toward that change. If you don’t have the answers, take heart! I’m here to help you find the answers you need.

It takes just one small step – give me a call at (480) 466-0756, or complete the form below.

I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation, during which you can tell me about yourself and ask me any questions that will help us to determine if it’s a good fit. Then we can see how to move forward from there. One step at a time!
